Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme by The Artsy Reader. This week’s topic is Bookish Discoveries I Made In 2019. 2019 was a big year of transition in my life, so I had to change how I read and ingested books. I started reading differently and started enjoying books in different mediums.
- I discovered Libby! Libby is a fantastic app that a lot of public libraries support that lets you borrow eBooks and audiobooks in a very aesthetically pleasing user interface. It also has amazing curation – every day there are different lists that have helped me discover lots of books.
- Audiobooks – I know I wasn’t the first person to discover audiobooks, but this personal discovery was great! I started listening in the car, in the evening and tons while I work out.
- Book of the Month – Getting a curated list of five books to choose from every month is fantastic. Also, the fact that the books all look nice on the shelf together is a nice plus.
- Kindle – I got a Kindle this year and I definitely won’t be looking back. It’s been a fantastic way to read and review ARCs from publishers

This is such an interesting concept, I love it! I’ve too discovered an app which allows me to rent audio books which is powered by our local library service which is awesome. So I’ve been reading an audio book a month for a few months now and adore it!
Great concept and great post!

I love audiobooks. In fact last year of the 100 books I read, 42 of them were audiobooks. I’m off the board this week with my favorites of the decade
I love Libby too! And I’m trying to push myself to listen to more audiobooks. I just tend to be more visual. 🙂

Great list. I’ve been getting more into Audio books recently too.
I love my Kindle too, although I’ve been using mine for years (I’m on my second one because the first one was having a battery issue). I did have an Audible subscription, but I cancelled (temporarily) because I had credits building up and unlistened to books. I’ll get back in when I’m ready. I like to mix in some audiobooks from my library too. They don’t often have books I want available immediately (which is why I got the Audible membership) but it helps stretch the audiobook dollar.
I’ve never heard of Libby – we have a fantastic library system here in Hawaii, I’ll have to check it out.
I wondered what items I could put for this top ten tuesday list and i am getting an idea of how to proceed looking at yours 🙂 audio books won’t make it yet though
That Libby sounds interesting. I’ll have to look it up! Enjoy using your Kindle. I don’t know how I’d have a book blog if I didn’t have one (well, I used to have a Nook but Windows 10 killed it)!
I love audio – great for dog walking and when I cooking. Never heard of Libby tho
Libby!!! Oh my goodness, I completely forgot about Libby when I made my list!! 😂 it’s amazing!!!
I use overdrive my self. I never used to like audio books but I try it while I was cleaning one day and feel in love with it. And my kindle is my most use electronic at my house.
Yeah, Libby is amazing. My library has it, too.

So glad you discovered Libby! All of these are awesome resources. I thought of signing up for BotM before. Maybe in 2020 I will. Thanks for sharing!
Since my maternity leave and reentering the work flow audiobooks have been my savior! I have been listening to more books than reading and feel like I can get to those stories I wouldn’t have time to actually pick up.
Have to comment on you getting a Kindle and ARCs…they are never ending. Happy reading.
I love a good audiobook! I’m happy you found (and love them) this year.
Getting a kindle just makes everything better.
Audiobooks have totally changed my reading life. I know a lot of people say they can’t get into them, but I think they just haven’t found the right narrator yet. Great post!
I discovered Libby last year too! I wish my library had more books, but I mostly love it.
Not heard of Libby before. It’s always lovely to find new ways to read.
Love Book of the Month! Gives me so much reading inspo when I need a ew one to get into.
Great post and great list I absolutely love the Libby app as well. Thank you so much for sharing your awesome post.
