Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme by The Artsy Reader. This week’s topic is Books I Bought/Borrowed Because of their cover. I’m a big cover shopper. You know that old saying? You can’t judge a book by it’s cover? That doesn’t apply to me. This method of buying has lead to some of my favorite books and some of my least favorite books.
- The Selection by Kiera Cass – Gorgeous cover, not so gorgeous story
- Supernova by Marissa Meyer – I love the comic book style and the silver foil. The story is just as good.
- The Woman in Cabin 10 by Ruth Ware – The cover is one of the best mystery cover’s I’ve every seen, but the story definitely falls short.
- Daisy Jones and the Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid – The cover reminds me a lot of an old rock and roll portrait, and perfectly sets the tone for this amazing book.
- You Are Not Alone by Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen – The cover shows the Moore sisters and illustrates the fact that you can get close, but they’ll never let you in.
- The Two Lives of Lydia Bird by Josie Silver – Simple and perfect.
- Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo – I love all the small details on the cover and the foil accents on my edition
- The Heir by Kiera Cass – Just like The Selection, a stunning cover and a trash book.
- Twice in a Blue Moon by Christina Lauren – Simple and a great use of foil. Notice a pattern?
- New Moon by Stephanie Meyer – I don’t like the book, but the cover is so simple and gorgeous.

I’ve definitely done covers buys of books that I ended up disliking after I read them: Beautiful Creatures, The Siren by Kiera Cass. I’m more selective with the books I buy now but I have to resist those pretty covers.
Six of Crows is a really good book. http://pmprescott.blogspot.com/2020/04/ttt-040720.html
I just love it when the covers are shiny! I don’t buy most books because of the cover, but when there’s a beautiful cover to a book I want, sometimes I just want ot admire it… or even pet it!
I know what you mean about buying for the covers. I totally bought SO many books because of pretty dresses on them!!
I love how on a reasonably free topic people end doing the same topic.

Six of Crows has a brilliant cover, I especially love the one of the collector’s edition.

Totally guilty of buying books because of their cover too. Daisy Jones and The Six has a fab cover, and I did buy it but have yet to read it. And I always admire the cover on The Selection.
The Two Lives of Lydia Bird has a beautiful cover for sure.

I’ve only read Six of Crows of this list, but it was also a cover buy for me (and I loved it!)
My TTT also is about cover buys: https://www.traversingchapters.com/top-ten-tuesday-ten-books-i-bought-because/
Renegades really does have a gorgeous cover! I always find it so disappointing when a book has a lovely cover but the story doesn’t match it, I end up thinking about all the other books that deserve such beautiful covers more.
I’m a sucker for a great cover, too, but it’s such a bummer when the story inside doesn’t live up to the promise on the outside! I hate that.
Happy TTT!

I agree with your Daisy Jones & The Six comments. I loved the cover and the book.
Leigh Bardugo has gotten a lot of great covers. 🙂
